The home care services provided through Hearts of Gold Caregivers is tailored to suit the specific needs of the client.

No two people are exactly alike in the world, so no two people we serve will have the same plan of care.  Each of our clients have their own specific and unique requirements and desires. Each client’s plan of care (or Service Plan) is uniquely tailored to his or her individual needs.  As time passes and circumstances and needs change, the Service Plan is altered to accommodate those changes. Being responsive and adaptive to our clients’ needs is why we have been recognized for our award winning service.

We offer a broad range of care options to our clients; from basic housekeeping and incidental transportation, to medication administration and nursing services.  It’s easiest to think about our services if we categorize them:

Sometimes getting old can be a lonely proposition.  This is especially true when a spouse passes away or when an older person is relocated to a new, unfamiliar area so they can be nearer family members who want to look after them.  Loneliness can be terribly painful.  Many of our clients just want to spend time with someone just to sit and talk, play cards, or go for a drive or a walk.  Our caregivers can bring such joy to their lives, and frequently form strong bonds with their clients and are sometimes treated almost like one of the family.

This can also be enormously comforting to other family members who, because they live far away or have jobs and busy lives, are unable to spend the time they’d like to with their senior loved one.  Our caregivers are often the “ears and the eyes” for the family, who can alert family members when the senior loved one is having a bad day or is declining.

Housekeeping is frequently one of the day-to-day activities that some older folks struggle with – especially some of the heavier jobs (such as vacuuming) or tasks that require getting down on hands and knees (like scrubbing the shower or bathtub).  Still others need help with preparing meals, shopping, or running errands.  These are all activities that the caregiver can help with.

Many older folks really benefit from this assistance because it allows them to maintain their independence and remain in their own home.  Family members really appreciate this help as well because it allows them to spend quality time with their older loved ones, rather than spending their time cleaning up the house and rushing around doing errands and shopping.

There are so many things that can fall under this category.  Below is a list of typical activities that our caregivers can do to help our clients:

  • Dust
  • Vacuum
  • Clean kitchen
  • Organize closets
  • Change the linen
  • Light laundry
  • Light ironing
  • Errands and transportation
  • Grocery and clothes shopping
  • Pick up prescriptions
  • Make bank deposits
  • Drive to family gatherings
  • Handle dry-cleaning
  • Buy stamps, mail packages
  • Attend church services
  • Visits to the senior center
  • Pet care
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • And much more…

Due to deteriorating physical abilities or mental capacity, many of our clients begin to struggle with their own common personal care activities.  Our caregivers are specially trained to provide assistance with personal care.  This training includes not only the “how to,” but teaches them to be sensitive to their client’s feelings when dealing with such personal, private matters.  Personal care activities can include but are not limited to assistance with:

  • Bathing or showering
  • Toileting and elimination
  • Dressing / undressing
  • Standing or sitting (transfers)
  • Walking

There are different levels of assistance with medications that our clients can receive, ranging from a little help (reminders) to a lot of help (administration).  There are very strict State rules on how medications are managed by an agency, and in most cases our staff Registered Nurse will need to be involved to ensure that the tasks are being carried out correctly.  Deciding exactly the kind of assistance is needed can be determined during the initial intake interview.   The level of care will be carefully monitored and upgraded as and when necessary.  Generally, medication assistance is broken down into 4 levels:

  • Medication reminders
  • Medication assistance (client is able to self-direct medication administration, but requires assistance of a caregiver)
  • Medication management (putting medications in weekly medi-set boxes)
  • Medication administration (client is not able to self-direct medication administration, so requires a caregiver to administer the medications to the client)

  • Catheter care
  • Colostomy care
  • Wound care

Hospice care is a special kind of healthcare focused on keeping a person comfortable once it has been determined that their underlying disease can no longer be treated or cured.  Hospice organizations can provide acute care for a person in the final stages of life, as well as bereavement services and counseling for family members. Hospice organizations often do not have the resources, however, to dedicate a large amount of time to each patient, and an external Home Care agency can bridge that gap.  We work in concert with the hospice organizations to ensure that the care we provide is collaborative and comprehensive.

Caregiving services can be very flexible and can be provided from as little as 3 hours per visit. Overnight shifts or even 24/7 care are available if needed.
